Moral Panic.

Since the 9/11 attack, terrorism has been a prominent topic across the world however especially America as its where the attack happened, 9/11 was the main catalyst for moral panic involving terrorism, meaning the social effects that have or may happen due to the social panic it creates around the topic. Moral panic in an area such as this can create stigmas around the religion and can make people generalise a large specific group into being something they aren't.

snapchat and other social medias can be used to create fake personas online and are regularly used for things like grooming, in return this creates moral panic around the topic of social media. social media is also a source of misinformation and inappropriate content can be accessed by anyone. 

The spread of misinformation on social media can create ideologies that are harmful to society or certain groups of people, this can be linked to 9/11 where misinformation was spread about the muslim religion and they were painted as being something they aren't, however this idea was created through moral panic because the terrorists were said to be of muslim faith however this is an inaccurate representation of the religion.
